In the heart of downtown Sacramento sits one of California’s most beloved cultural landmarks, the Crocker Art Museum. As California’s art museum, the Crocker Art Museum offers one of the most impressive collections of California art in the country. Its story goes back to the 1870s, when E.B. Crocker began collecting works that celebrated the state’s identity and creative spirit.

Today, visitors can explore everything from early California and Impressionist art to contemporary pieces by Sacramento icons like Wayne Thiebaud, Mel Ramos, and Gregory Kondos. With more than 28,000 artworks and 10 to 12 rotating exhibitions each year, there’s always something new to see.

In addition to its changing exhibitions, the museum features permanent installations showcasing a wide range of art from around the world. On any given day, visitors can experience Art of the Ancient Americas, Asian, European, Oceanic, and Native American art, as well as American art from 1800 to today, international ceramics, and photography. The Crocker Art Museum’s collection spans centuries and continents, creating an experience that connects global artistry with California’s creative legacy.
