Major industries in the greater Sacramento region include:
State Government – Given its capital status, Sacramento serves as the headquarters for most major state operations including the DMV, the CA Lottery, the CA Department of Public Health and many others, as well as state services like CalPers.
Healthcare – The Sacramento region is home to the headquarters of Sutter Health and UC Davis Health, as well as the administrative offices for Dignity Health and major operations for Kaiser Permanente. In addition, insurance providers VSP and Centene are also based locally.
Technology – Intel makes it headquarters in nearby Folsom, part of Sacramento County and Apple operates a campus not far from downtown. UC Davis is helping to lead the way in agricultural technology, and as cost of living rises in Silicon Valley, Sacramento is seeing an influx of start-ups and outposts of Bay Area tech firms.
Food & Beverage / Agriculture – Sacramento has a strong history in agriculture and is surrounded by 1.5 million acres of active farmland. The greater Sacramento leads the nation in everything ranging from domestic caviar to sushi rice and processed tomatoes This history, coupled with the city’s focus on the championing of local food has made the region a top spot for food and beverage growers and producers including Blue Diamond Almonds, Tony’s Fine Foods, Bogle Vineyards and Sterling Caviar.
Higher Education – The greater Sacramento region is home to both California State University, Sacramento and the University of California, Davis, infusing the region with industry experts and graduating professionals.
