Photography Month Sacramento is returning this April, featuring a series of events and hands-on activities to celebrate the art of photography.

The monthlong celebration, which is open to everyone, including both professional and amateur photographers, features special exhibits, receptions, photoshoot meetups, workshops, lectures, photo shoot gatherings, and more.

Viewpoint Photographic Art Center’s “Springtime Around the World”

April 9 through May 3

Viewpoint Photographic Art Center | 2015 J St. Suite 101

This exhibit features the work of 37 photographers from California, Nevada, and Tennessee. The chosen interpretations range from weather events and personal encounters with birds, to moody landscapes, vibrant sunsets, and symbols of spring.

 

Sacramento Children Museum’s Polaroid Picture Workshop

April 1 through April 30

Sacramento Children’s Museum | 2701 Prospect Park Dr.

This fun pop-up activity gives attendees of all ages the opportunity to learn how polaroid photos work. Every Wednesday during April at 10:15 a.m., the museum will be offering the opportunity to learn how to take your own polaroid photos.  

 

Leland Stanford Mansion State Historic Museum’s Eadweard Muybridge Tours

April 1 through April 30

Lealand Stanford Mansion State Historic Park | 800 N St.

Throughout the month of April, take an exclusive Eadweard Muybridge Tour inside the Leland Stanford Mansion, where the brilliant but disturbed photographer and the former governor made history together. During the tour, guests will be able to see the groundbreaking work of Muybridge, whose innovative techniques revolutionized the art form.

 

“Silvery Synthesis” Exhibition at American River College’s James Kaneko Gallery

Taking place at the James Kaneko Gallery – that has served American River College students, faculty, staff, and the Sacramento region for over 20 years – “Silvery Synthesis” is an exhibition of photographic works by Dominick Porras, a Coahuiltecan/Chicano artist based in Sacramento. 

 

Sacramento Fine Arts Center’s “Mood & Emotion” Art Show

April 15 through May 10

With a mission to encourage the creation and presentation of original visual arts, to support the cultural life of the community, and to encourage all artists to fulfill their potential, the Sacramento Fine Arts Center is proud to present “Mood & Emotion,” a juried photographic art show featuring photographs that capture powerful moods or emotions, such as happiness, pride, anger or sadness.

 

“Environmental Portraiture: Telling Stories Through Your Lens with Farrell Scott” Workshop at Viewpoint Photographic Art Center

Photography enthusiasts of all ages and levels are invited to a hands-on workshop to explore the art of environmental portraiture, where the subject and their surroundings merge to tell authentic, compelling stories. Attendees will learn techniques for engaging a subject, mastering composition, balancing natural and artificial light, and using the environment to enhance portraits.

 

Gold Country on Camera Photography Exhibit

April 3 through April 29

Courtyard Suites Grass Valley | 210 N Auburn St

This exhibit includes photographs from those who participated in the Nevada County Camera Club’s photo challenge which challenged members to expand their photography to incorporate special effects like fantasy or 3D.

 

Twisted Track Gallery Presents Aniko Kizel’s “Visual Stimulation”

April 4 through April 27

Twisted Track Gallery | 1730 12th St.

This photo exhibition showcases the evolution of Kiezel’s passionate photography journey with a wide range of images such as large-format displays showcasing images on high quality paper, framed without glass and color metal prints of cityscapes.
