As the student travel season comes to an end, it is a great time to recap some of the year’s more memorable occasions in Sacramento student travel.
Once again, thousands of students arrived in Sacramento via planes, trains and buses to experience the California State Capitol and Gold Rush history they had learned so much about in their classrooms. Recently, I had the opportunity to experience a whirlwind tour with an awesome group of fourth graders from Southern California. Though I have been to Sacramento’s historic attractions countless times, experiencing the day with fourth graders was truly enlightening. One student spoke about his excitement to see the things he had only read about in text books. At Sutter’s Fort, a young student screamed in delight when she found the infamous Patty Reed doll she had recently learned about in her studies. From the State Capitol Museum, the California State Railroad Museum and horse drawn-carriage rides through Old Sacramento to Marshall Gold Discovery State Park and Gold Bug Mine, Sacramento and the Gold Country provide students with experiences to last a lifetime. Students weren’t the only ones to enjoy all of Sacramento’s treasures this year. We also had the opportunity to host a group of about 35 teachers from all over the country for an awesome FAM tour. Organized by a student tour operator, the teachers were able to preview a two-day itinerary that they could then share with their students. They stayed in student-friendly hotels, ate at student-friendly restaurants and, of course, experienced student-friendly attractions while also partaking in some “adult” time in Sacramento with plenty of local beer, wine and nightlife.
As now is the time to be looking ahead to 2015 travel, I am committed to helping tour operators and educators with anything I can to make the Sacramento experience more memorable. As always I am here to help with hotel selections, group-friendly meal options, transportation and attractions. I am also happy to continue to provide souvenir backpacks and other mementos to groups staying overnight in Sacramento hotels. Let me know how I can help!
