Sample Sacramento Two-Day Itinerary
Day 1
9 a.m. Docent-led tour of Capitol building. Observe a legislative session if possible. (free)
10:15 a.m. California Museum (walk from Capitol; $3 students & chaperones www.californiamuseum.org)
11:30 a.m. Arrive at Sutter’s Fort
12:30 p.m. Enjoy boxed lunch (Lunch Box Express) delivered to the lawn by Sutter’s Fort
1:15 p.m. Board bus and head to Old Sacramento/Railroad Museum
1:30 p.m. Tour Railroad Museum ($4 students/$9 adults - www.csrmf.org)
2:45 p.m. Sacramento History Museum/Underground Tour (adjacent to Railroad Museum - $4 students/$6 adults; additional $3 for gold panning)
4 p.m. Old Schoolhouse
4:45 p.m. Free time in Old Sacramento/carriage rides
5:30 p.m. Dinner in Old Sacramento (Joe’s Crab Shack, Ten22, Round Table Pizza)

Gold Bug Mine and Park
Located near downtown Placerville, about 60 minutes from Sacramento, students have three sites to visit in the park. Gold Bug Mine is the major historical and geological attraction and is an excellent example of hard rock mining. The Hendy Stamp Mill provides a full explanation of the ore extraction process from the quartz, and the Priest Mine is the original 1849 mine. Hard hats are provided. There is also a picnic and hiking area in the park. www.goldbugpark.org
Marshall Gold Discovery State Park
Located approximately 60 minutes from Downtown Sacramento, Marshall Gold Discovery State Park is one of the most significant historic sites in the nation. Your group can enjoy a real California Gold Rush experience while panning for gold near the site of the actual gold discovery. Park ranger guided programs of Sutter’s Mill are available as well as other value-added programs. www.parks.ca.gov
