Colour of Music Festival, the only Black Classical Musicians Festival on the West Coast, returns to Sacramento Nov. 8-11, 2023.
For four days, classical musicians from all over the world converge on Sacramento featuring performances from an all-female chamber orchestra, string quartets, vocal and piano recitals, organ recitals, literature presentations, and capped off with an 80-piece masterworks orchestra finale. Venues range in size from the intimate Guild Theater in Oak Park to the grandness of Memorial Auditorium.
“This is the third year in a row for the Colour of Music Festival in Sacramento and I’m so pleased to see its return. There’s nothing like it west of the Mississippi and it continues to grow both in number of performances and attendance,” says Sonya Bradley, Chief of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for Visit Sacramento. “There’s really something for everyone, whether you’re a classical music nerd or novice.”
What makes this festival unique is the coming together of classical musicians offering the public an opportunity to experience the talent of gifted classical principals, composers, and performers of African descent. These performances showcase the impact and significance of Black classical composers and performers on American and world culture.
