Qin Qin Lui speaks Mandarin and paints in an Integrative Watercolor style. Richard speaks Cantonese and paints oil on canvas. Neither speaks the other's dialect! Both are art teachers. Qin Qin conducts workshops in scenic locations, and Richard teaches all ages from his Elk Grove studio. Dr. Liu is an artist and scientist with a PHD in botany from UCDavis, and many interdisciplinary art accomplishments. Her early art inspiration came from rich art and culture as well as life experience as a village artist during the Chinese cultural revolution. Her two pursuits contribute to the unique character of her artworks integrating Chinese calligraphy, culture, and design elements into Western art styles; connecting art, science, culture and nature. Richard Yang attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Guangzhou, where he achieved his four year degree. He studied mostly realism but also abstract art. He took advantage of the Chinese Government ending its isolation from the world and the opening up of the borders for travel. He arrived in the United States in early 1989. In 2024 and 2025, the Chinese Government sponsored Richard’s trips to China. Only about 30 artists from all over the world were invited.
