Head out to Crest Theater, for The World According to Earl, a short, animated narrative documentary by Deborah Pittman. It's a tribute to her dad, an unsung hero, whose opportunities for education, growth and development were limited. A big part of his life goal was to empower his children, grandchildren, kids in the neighborhood with his knowledge that education was the way up and out.
During the Covid lockdown, Deborah realized that for the piece to outlive her, she would need to make it into a film. Last fall, she received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, Seeding Creativity Grant to make this film possible. The film features the unique and creative work of animators—Gabriel Isaiah Gonzalez, Selena LaVonne-Theresa Allen, Maria Fong, Christopher Cook, and Will Kim. The music features snippets of R & B, Klezmer, and a new arrangement of “Amazing Grace,” for Native American Style Flute and Bass Clarinet by composers, Jeff Adler, Roden Hartsough and Deborah Pittman.
Bring your dad to celebrate the story of Deborah’s dad, Father’s Day, and Juneteenth.
