2564 21st St, Sacramento, CA, Sacramento, CA 95818
: (916) 251-9223
The Shed Sessions give anyone the opportunity to learn jazz standards in a group from professional jazz musicians. Lead by Daniel J Owens and Nate Furgason, the Shed Sessions are a way to learn jazz one tune at a time. At the beginning of every month, we choose a tune to dissect and learn it top to bottom. THIS MONTH'S TUNE: "Black Orpheus" by Luiz Bonfa We talk about things like theory, improvisation, and exercises you can do at home to improve. We meet every Wednesday of the month leading up to the Jam Session on the last Wednesday. The Shed Sessions are a way to meet other musicians, learn about the history of jazz, and learn the music. The tunes are a list of frequently called tunes at jam sessions and college auditions. WHAT WILL WE LEARN? A few of the things we’ll cover at the sessions: Scales Ear Training Theory Chords Melodies Improvisation JAM SESSION The last session of the month is where things get exciting! The Jam Session is where we can put what we’ve learned to the test. Unlike other sessions where we focus on fundamentals, the Jam is less instruction and more performance. Be ready to bring your soloing stuff!
