In this hands-on workshop, we’ll explore the art of environmental portraiture, where the subject and their surroundings come together to tell a deeper, more authentic story. Environmental portraits go beyond a simple headshot — they reflect the personality, profession, or passion of the subject through the context of their environment. Whether photographing a musician in their studio, a chef in the kitchen, or a craftsman in their workshop, this workshop will teach you how to capture compelling, meaningful images that speak volumes. What You'll Learn: Engaging the Subject: We'll discuss building a narrative to enhance any portrait. Composition and Framing: We'll explore examples of images and discuss how to integrate your subject effectively with their surroundings. Lighting Techniques: Learn how to use a combination of natural and artificial light to highlight your subject while preserving the atmosphere of the environment. Environmental Storytelling: How to use the environment to enhance the narrative of your portrait, adding depth and context. Posing and Direction: Tips for guiding your subject to create natural, relaxed poses that fit the mood and context of the shoot. Camera Settings: Learn how to adjust your aperture, shutter speed, and ISO to perfectly balance the subject and environment. What to Bring: Your camera (DSLR, mirrorless, or any camera with manual settings). A tripod Any preferred lenses A notebook for tips and techniques! A 30-minute lunch break will be given. The workshop fee includes the model and materials.
