SMUD Art Exhibition and Opening Reception Honoring the "City of Trees"

6301 S St., Sacramento, CA 95817
Come take a stroll amongst the "trees"!  Meet the artists at the FREE opening reception! This exhibition encourages visitors to reflect on how trees have shaped the city’s landscape and the essential role they play in our daily lives. It features paintings, watercolors, collages, mixed media, encaustic, and photography by Sacramento-area artists including John Angell, Carol Mott-Binkley, Sanday Delehanty, Rhonda Egan, Penny S. Hanscom, Kristin Hartman, Bobby Horiuchi, Barbara Kempe, Patris Miller, Judith Monroe, Frank Ordaz, David Peterson, and Helen Plenert. Sacramento earned the nickname 'City of Trees' through a long-term, multifaceted effort that started with early settlers planting trees for shade. This was followed by city planning initiatives and community efforts, further supported by public figures advocating for green spaces. SMUD has continued these efforts by partnering with the Sacramento Tree Foundation to plant more than 630,000 trees in the region. The partnership offers up to 10 free shade trees per customer to help cool homes and improve air quality. The ‘City of Trees’ name was officially adopted as early as 1855.
