RCC50: A Celebration of the Choral Experience

7869 Kingswood Dr., Citrus Heights, CA 95610
: (916) 622-1109
In 1976, the River City Chorale gave its first public concerts under the direction of Jack Kerry. Over the next 50 years, through five directors (Jack Kerry, Walter Kerfoot, Mel Olson, Richard Morrissey, and David Vanderbout) and hundreds of singers, the River City Chorale has worked diligently towards fulfilling its mission of inspiring and enriching our community through high-quality and diverse choral performances. Tonight, we will honor the legacy of the River City Chorale by celebrating what the Chorale embodies—the choral experience. The choral experience is one that is hard to put into words. In tonight’s concert, we will attempt to paint a picture of this experience through music. We begin the concert with music that celebrates the power of music and music-making. Choral music is particularly unique because it is an artform that inherently brings people together. The community of choral music is essential for both performers and listeners, and tonight we will pay tribute to this fact to close the first half of our program. The second half of our program will be a celebration of what the River City Chorale has done best for 50 years—singing! As always, the program will be taken from the diverse breadth of choral music that the River City Chorale has become known for, including classical, folk, multicultural, pop, and much more. In addition to the music, you will hear from members of the River City Chorale as they share how the choral experience has impacted them. We hope that you leave our performance tonight with an important reminder of how powerful, special, and vital the choral music experience is. Whether you have supported the River City Chorale for years, or just this year, this support is essential for the organization to continue for another 50 years. While this 50th anniversary season now comes to a close, the music and mission of the River City Chorale will go on with the organization’s 2026-2027 season, and I hope you will join us to continue our proud musical legacy.
