This beautiful springtime performance will leave the audience mesmerized by selections inspired by the glorious sounds of nature — from bird songs to the haunting sounds of whales! Enjoy Alice Lenaghan, Principal Flute of the Oakland Symphony, with John Cozza on Piano at this community concert hosted by Congregation Beth Shalom Michael Neumann, Artistic Director Emeritus of Sacramento Youth Symphony and Music Director Emeritus of the Folsom Lake Symphony. This hour-long performance and included reception will put the spring in the step of any nature lover! ABOUT THE MUSIC: Benjamin Boone, Nature's Song - Boone is a California composer, raised in North Carolina but now teaches, performs and composes at Cal State University Fresno. Nature's Song is several movements for solo flute that transcribes actual bird song from across the US. It is virtuosic, humorous and at times sad. It has been an audience favorite in my recent recitals, many flutists in attendance running off to purchase the music. https://benjaminboone.com/ Ian Clarke, Deep Blue -Ian Clarke is a British flutist, composer and jazz musician who spans all genres from opera to rock. Deep Blue for Flute and Piano is an atmospheric piece using pitch bends very effectively to imitate the voice of whales. The piano sets up a deep watery groove while the flute sings above. Together it is hauntingly beautiful. The audience is guaranteed to remember this piece. https://ianclarke.net/biography/ PERFORMER BIOS Alice Lenaghan, Flutist: Dr. Alice Lenaghan holds a doctorate in flute performance from the University of Michigan in addition to performance degrees from Western Michigan University (M.M.) and the Oberlin Conservatory of Music (B.M).
