With a brush, pen spritzer, and white chalk marker, learn how to create stunning watercolor paintings of tiny hummingbirds up to majestic eagles, all in mid-flight! Meandering black lines, bright saturated colors, and white chalk marker accents complete the effect. Follow me step-by-step from painting start to painting completion. This creative process can also be applied to land and water critters! Expressive Impressions of Birds in Flight Supply list and pre-workshop instructions Paint: Professional grade tube watercolor paint such as Sennelier (I love their l’Aquarelle watercolor paint), Daniel Smith), Schminke, Holbein, Winsor Newton, etc. Colors: • Opera (or close to this color) • Alizarin Crimson (or close to this color) • Cadmium Yellow (or close to this color) • Cobalt Blue (or close to this color) • Phthalo Blue (green shade) (or close to this color) Brushes • A #16 round watercolor brushes. I suggest a combination of natural and synthetic hair. Don't go too cheap. • A smaller #6 or #8 round watercolor brush. • A soft graphite drawing pencil (I use a soft Ticonderoga office pencil). • • One Permanent Black Ink Pen • A Sharpie Ultra Fine Point Black Permanent Pen. Paper • Six 7 ½ -inch by 11-inch eighth sheets (close to this size) of cold press, 140lb., Fabriano Artistico extra white watercolor paper (by far my favorite to paint on!) or any other professional grade watercolor paper (like Arches). You can cut the six one-eighth-size sheets from one 22-inch by 30-inch full sheet of watercolor paper and save a remaining 11-inch by 15-inch sheet for the eagle painting. Palette • A good-sized rectangular plastic palette with paint wells around the outside with a good-sized mixing area inside. The palette should measure about 10x16". There are various manufacturers of these palettes, but they are all around this size and configuration. Additional materials • A roll or two of absorbent kitchen paper towels. • One white chalk marker. There are a lot of different brands on the market, but they are all about the same. My fav. brand is a white Bistro chalk marker. • Something to hold about a quart of water. If you want to go fancy pants, I’d suggest the Mijello-brand water buckets (the one that holds about a liter of water). • A small to medium water spritzer.
