ART FROM THE HEART: An Exhibition of Artwork from the Developmental Disabilities Service Organization’s Short Center North opens at the SMUD Art Gallery, 6301 S Street, Sacramento, on Thursday, September 19, 2024. The public is invited to meet the artists and view their work at a FREE opening reception on Wednesday, September 18, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.
The exhibition showcases paintings by adults with developmental disabilities: Josie Beeman, Jose Bodas, Steve Brorstrom, Carly Caldwell, Bret Cevola,Ashley Clark, Matt Crouch, Matt Corassa, Denise Easter, Jon Espegren, Stephanie Goodwin, Gary Gugliemina, William Haddad, Melissa Kline, Robin Marshall, Liz Perkins, Julie Phillips, Camelia Pierson, Jerry Williams and Jeff Working
Short Center North (SCN) was developed by the Developmental Disabilities Service Organization (DDSO) in 1978 as an arts-based program for adults with developmental disabilities. SCN offers several opportunities to develop life skills, form meaningful friendships, and become more involved with the community. Painting, music, dance, theatre, literature, poetry, gallery exhibitions and digital media are used as vehicles to help participants create, develop and express themselves.
