Annie Get Your GunAnnie Get Your Gun came shooting into the Sacramento Wells Fargo Pavilion opening night to a packed house. The humorous production brought a wide range of age groups together to enjoy familiar tunes by Irving Berlin such as “Anything You Can do (I Can Do Better),” “You Can’t Get a Man with A Gun,” and, “There’s No Business Like Show Business.”

Annie Get Your GunA love story masked with comedy, Annie Get Your Gun brings a fictionalization of real-life sharpshooter Annie Oakley and her husband Frank Butler. It follows Annie’s unsought rise to fame to become the best sharpshooter in a male-dominated and chauvinistic world of Wild West shows that were popular in the late 1800s. In addition, we witness the competition between the two lovers for who the best shooter is, which ultimately comprised their love for each other by their ambition on being the best.

Annie Get Your Gun
Annie Get Your Gun
opened on Broadway in 1964 starring Broadway legend Ethel Merman, and has since become a musical theatre staple. Musicals like Annie Get Your Gun may be over shadowed by modern theatrical productions such as Wicked and Mary Poppins, but it was refreshing to watch a musical where the essence of the production was focused on the music, comedy, and exciting choreography. This performance received a much-deserved standing ovation.

Annie Get Your Gun runs through this Sunday, August 14. Tickets are still available (note: this production is recommended for theatre goers age 4 and older). Showtimes are: Thurs 2pm & 8pm; Fri 8pm; Sat 2pm & 8pm; Sun 7:30pm.

The Music Circus season continues through the end of August with performances of I Do! I Do! (Aug 16-Aug 21), & Miss Saigon (Aug 23-Aug 28).
