Sacramento sits at the confluence of the American and Sacramento Rivers, which means it is just a short drive to some of the best rafting on the continent.

The American River's three forks provide rafters with a variety of rapids, including anything from easy routes for beginners to advanced routes where you'll find intense rapids.

Rafting season usually kicks off in Spring, and if the snowfall is good, the season can last through Labor Day. Typically, July and August are the best times to book a rafting trip out of Sacramento if you're a beginner or looking for a leisurely family outing.

It's never too early to think of your summer vacation, and if you're booking airfare, it helps to have an idea of where you want to go and when so you can keep an eye on airfare and snag a good rate.

If you are planning a rafting trip, it is important you book a tour with experienced guides. With the help of our partners at Visit El Dorado, we have compiled a list of some great early-season specials. And don’t forget to enjoy the sites in El Dorado before you make your way back to Sacramento.
