Sacramento’s most anticipated New Year’s Eve celebration, the 15th Annual New Year’s Eve Sky Spectacular, will take place in Old Sacramento on Wednesday, Dec. 31 with entertaining and family fun programming from 6 p.m. - midnight. Produced by the Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau and sponsored by Sacramento365.com, the free community celebration will include two spectacular fireworks displays (at 9 p.m. and midnight), exhilarating live music, children’s entertainment, food and drink vendors and a variety of live street entertainment throughout the evening, all to ring in the new year!
The 2014 New Year’s Eve Sky Spectacular will offer kid-friendly children’s programming that includes Sacramento’s premier 3D game theater, balloon twisting and face painting, and live music provided by the young and lively Madison Hudson Band and the Sacramento sensation, Superlicious. In addition, the Old Sacramento holiday staple, the Theatre of Lights will wrap up the holiday season with two final – and free – performances (at 7 p.m. and again at 8:30 p.m.) on K Street between Front and Second streets.
And for the main events, the highly anticipated fireworks displays will hold new thrills and surprises this year, given the exciting new choreography elements perfectly syncopated with today’s pop hits and legendary rock favorites. Guests will enjoy two memorable yet different fireworks displays as part of the free community celebration. Choreographed to top hits sure to please music fans of all ages, the exciting 9 p.m. sky concert will last a full 15 minutes, and the midnight finale choreographed to classic hits will last closer to seven minutes. To enhance the visually intense shows, the fireworks will be launched from the West Sacramento river walk in front of the iconic Ziggurat building.
Both fireworks musical soundtracks will be simulcast live – at 9 p.m. on STAR 106.5FM and at midnight on The Eagle 96.9FM. Guests are encouraged to download The Eagle’s app to create an even more sensory stimulating grand finale while ringing in the new year.
The New Year’s Eve Sky Spectacular will take place rain or shine. For safety during the two fireworks displays, Tower Bridge will be raised to prevent pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
