MeetingsNet.com listed several creative ways on how to cut meeting costs. We here at the SCVB picked our top five and added in a Sacramento twist.
1. Go During the Off-Season or on Weekends
Planning a winter meeting in Milwaukee or a summer event in Miami is a good way to find great deals on hotels and meeting space. The beauty about Sacramento is its warm summers and mild winters lead to a year-round meeting destination. Our seasons are always ON with OFF-season pricing.
2. Use Local Speakers
They may be less expensive than big-name presenters, and you'll save on travel. Home to the California State Capitol, California State University, Sacramento (and minutes from the University of California, Davis), and a hub to state associations, Sacramento has many high-quality speaker resources.
3. Use Fewer Buses
Look for compact cities where the major venues are within easy walking distance. Sacramento has a convention package featuring the Sacramento Convention Center and two major convention hotels – Sheraton Grand and Hyatt Regency (1,000 rooms total). There are only 273 feet between the three facilities with an additional 1,100 rooms within walking distance. Our convention package sits in the heart of Downtown, Midtown and our entertainment Mecca. So, get your walk on.
4. Find Local Discounts
Nonprofit organizations such as museums, art institutes or historical societies often offer reduced rates for groups. Entertainment venues such as sporting events and theaters may have generous bulk-rate packages. We here at the SCVB offer your delegates discounts to restaurants and attractions by simply being an attendee in our city and wearing a conference badge.
5. Ask the CVB
Start with the CVB website. Most provide a wealth of destination information — and even some insider deals — and can get you just about anything you need: meeting planning guides; restaurant, hotel and attraction info; and marketing assistance. The best part: It's all free! For more information on the SCVB’s free services, contact our Convention Services & Support Manager, Laura Fickle, at lfickle@visitsacramento.com or 800-292-2334.
