A few weeks ago, the Cosmopolitan Cabaret brought a lively new show to Sacramento, "Bingo: A Winning Musical." Just in time for Sacramento's first official month-long celebration of National Arts & Humanities Month, ARTober: 31 Days of Art & Soul, the cast enthusiastically showcase their talents in this witty and entertaining show.
If you are not familiar with the game, you quickly learn that it can get a little tricky and some folks take it very seriously. The story surrounds three eccentric women: Vern, Patsy and Honey and their 15+ year devotion - no matter what obstacles may come their way - to Bingo Night with the girls. Superstition, passion, and intense
competition are portrayed as the unifying bond between them. Hilarity ensues as a small cast of equally comical characters unravel a surprising discovery! Friendships are tested, relationships are formed and ultimately, everyone wins! To make it even more interesting, even the audience gets to participate in this high-stakes game! Everyone is given their very own Bingo cards and daubers for periodic interactive parts where prizes are even awarded. Although I didn't get a "Bingo!", I was thoroughly entertained with the entire "experience" of the game.
This would be a great show for a group of friends or colleagues to attend. The Cosmopolitan is walking distance from the Convention Center, Downtown Sacramento hotels, and plenty of restaurants. But with full access (and service) to the tasty food & drink menu from the adjacent Cosmopolitan Cafe, you can have dinner while you watch. To top it off, travel upstairs to the swanky Social Nightclub for an early evening cocktail before the crowd rolls in - or if you're up for it, stay and get your dance on!
Opening on September 29, 2011 the show runs through January 8, 2012.
