Downtown Sacramento is being transformed – and not just by the new arena, Golden 1 Center. Over the next few months, the six-block area around it, called Downtown Commons, or DoCo, is set to emerge as a food, entertainment and shopping district anchored by a 16-story mixed-use hotel/office/retailer tower, a revamped Macy’s department store and movie-theater complex, and a three-acre public plaza studded with art installations. Outdoor concerts, farmers markets and special events will also be part of the mix. Only six blocks from the Sacramento Convention Center, DoCo will be a great place for your delegates to spend their off time to shop, dine and relax.

DoCo will be a gathering place – a public square. Think New York City’s lower Manhattan SoHo district. Todd Chapman, president and CEO of JMA Ventures, is building DoCo on the 14-acre property. Chapman says “DoCo is being built as an integrated environment in the sense that it’ll create an organic flow from here to the art galleries, theaters, restaurants and, naturally, Golden 1 Center.”  DoCo is scheduled to open spring 2017.
