After six days in hog heaven, one has to wonder, is there such a thing as too much bacon? Can one tire of the distinctively savory, salty and sinful cured meat?  Is it possible that a week of ALL things bacon is over-the-top even for those with an insatiable palate for pork?  Say it with me now sisters and brother…NO WAY!

As Bacon Fest 2014 readies for the weekend, there is a lot of sizzle left to this third annual event. From Old Sac…through Midtown…and all points throughout the city, you can continue to pig out on everything from cocktails to appetizers and entrees and, yes…some of THE most outrageous sweet and salty desserts imaginable!

Saturday, it’s brunch at Bacon & Butter (1119 21st. St) with, among other outstanding things, signature apple bacon fritters!  And for even more sublime brine that is just off the charts, get to Doughbot Donuts (2226 10th St.) for their killer donut creation featuring peanut butter, bacon and drizzles of chocolate ganache!  Bacon Maple Lattes are also available to compliment.  Sadly, the Bacon Fest mega finale Chef’s Cook-off at Mulvaney’s on Sunday is sold out, but there is much to squeal about to the end.

Sacramento is the Farm-to-Fork Capital of California.  Bacon Fest continues through Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014.  For more information visit facebook.com/baconfest
