SACRAMENTO, CA-Designed to further grow the numbers and economic impact of sporting events in Sacramento, the Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau (SCVB) will now house, manage and direct the operations of the Sacramento Sports Commission.
While the agencies have operated independently, the SCVB has played a supportive role in the Sports Commission's efforts to secure high-profile events that include the US Olympic Track & Field Trials, The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships (2003, 2005-7) and the Amgen Tour of California.
Under this new agreement with the City and County, the SCVB will pursue all opportunities, both large and small, to secure new and returning sporting events for Sacramento.
With an established and connected sales and marketing department and proven events track record, the SCVB possesses the depth of resources to grow Sacramento's sports market-share. Additionally, the merging of the two organizations will allow for a restructuring of the Commission, a consolidation of efforts between the Commission and the SCVB, and a seamless transition for our former, current and potential sports customers.
"While we've been assisting the Sports Commission with larger, high-profile events, the SCVB has executed sporting events with lower-profile clients since we opened our doors in 1927," said Steve Hammond, president & CEO of the SCVB. "We are already in these markets, connected to the decision makers, and are excited at the opportunity to grow Sacramento's sporting market-share."
Created by the Sacramento Hotel Association, the Sacramento Tourism and Marketing District provides a consistent funding model for the SCVB's sales efforts. Last year, the SCVB booked more than 33,000 hotel rooms directly tied to its sporting event sales efforts. Examples of past events include the NCAA Women's Rowing Championships, the Jr. Olympic Track & Field Championships, the California State Men's and Women's Bowling Championships and the US Fencing Summer National Championships. Additionally, the SCVB played a lead role in securing the United States Golf Association's 2015 Senior Open Tournament.
The mission of the Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau is to strengthen the positive awareness of the City and County of Sacramento as a convention and visitor destination to increase revenue and stimulate economic development and growth for the community.
